About Cheet
Cheet London is an independent boutique label with a rapidly growing reputation. A watch word for style mavens and handbag aficionados alike, designer, Emily Cheetham’s bags and accessories fuse contemporary design with classic undertones to create truly beautiful, timeless pieces.
After studying Italian and Art, Emily’s career included a stint at BBC radio and working as a PR before starting up her label in 2003.
Craving a career in the creative arts, Emily started with one bag, crafted on her battered Singer sewing machine, and began throwing handbag parties to get the product out into the marketplace. She quickly gained a legion of loyal fans and, within six months, her impulsiveness paid off as the part time hobby became a full time career.
Drawing inspiration from the unlikeliest of places, Emily’s core aesthetic is sculpture, high quality and classicism. Heritage is also fundamental, with the designer looking to art deco architecture, traditional Celtic knots, retro, Bakelite fixtures and ornate fretwork. Always with a focus on craftsmanship, personality and thoughtfulness, function is as important to Emily as beauty, giving the pieces a sense of integrity and richness. Tactile, worn leathers and gorgeous, carefully made fixtures are paramount, revving up the luxe factor and creating a history and story behind each bag.
With Emily’s devotion to skilled craftsmanship and vintage design, coupled with an attainable price tag, it’s hardly surprising that the fashion kids have taken her to their hearts. The press have been captivated by her, too, with Vogue.com lauding her as, ‘A hot new name in bag design’, as well as being named Best Accessories Designer by the London Fashion Forum. The designer has also previously created a limited edition collection for mega brand, HOBBS, and a men’s diffusion range for Designers at Debenhams. Recently, Emily has gained an official seal of approval from the industry’s toughest critics, having scored a second nomination at the 4th Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards. Hosted by InStyle and the Parsons School of Design, Cheet has made it down to the final five in the category of Best Handbag in Overall Style and Design, proving that the brand is packed with industry clout as well as being every fashionista’s favorite.
Winning reams of press coverage in style bibles like Grazia, In Style and Easy Living, plus countless column inches in the papers, Cheet London has been worn by Natascha McElhone, Emma Thompson, Margo Stilley , The Saturdays and Jenni Falconer.
Collections are available internationally at prestigious stores and boutiques including United Arrows and Tomorrowland in Japan, Franck et Fils and Galeries Lafayette in Paris and the UK-based Graham & Green, Jarrolds and Collen & Clare, to name but a few.
